Endovenous Laser Ablation (ELA)
for Varicose Veins

Patient before treatmentThis is the newest technology available for treating large varicose veins. It has superseded surgery. Endovenous Laser Ablation (ELA) is a procedure whereby laser light is used to heat seal damaged deeper veins that lead to varicose veins. An alternative to this procedure is Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy where the same underlying vein is treated with a sclerosant chemical. ELA  or "lasering" varicose veins is the treatment of choice where the underlying damaged deeper veins are particularly large.

ELA is minimally invasive and is performed at The Leg Vein Clinic, GoldCoast. There is no need for hospitalisation. You are awake during the entire procedure but the pain is minimal, your leg will be numbed using local anaesthetic. The entire procedure usually takes about 1 hour.

This is a typical example of of varicose veins that can be treated with endovenous laser ablation.
